PHOTOSELECTIVE VAPORIZATION OF THE PROSTATE GLAND
People who have benign prostate hypertrophy (BPH) that does not respond to nutritional therapy now have a choice~lasers instead of scalpels. An 80 watt GreenLight KTP laser is used to open a channel through the prostate, easing and often eliminating the main symptoms of BPH. The therapy is safe, effective, and does not cause bleeding, swelling, infection, impotence, nerve damage, incontinence, or other serious problems as are often the result of scalpels and TURP procedures.
This treatment takes about 20 minutes, is done on an outpatient basis, and provides almost instant results. There are more and more centers that now have the laser., and more urologists trained in its use. If you simply cannot overcome BPH, and you are relegated to a lifetime of drugs, or worse yet a TURP procedure, always consider PVP first. |
To find a doctor in your area, call Laserscope (the maker of the laser machine) for a referral (1800-356-7600). If you live in California, call Dr. Thomas Bogaard in Los Angeles (1-213-483-6830). If you live in Michigan, call Dr. Mahmood Hai in Detroit (1-734-595-1166). Or log on to Click on Urology, then click Find a Doctor. You will fill in your geographical data and voila, you will get a list of urologists in your area.
I've personally seen this procedure. And I've discussed it with both Dr. Hal and Dr. Bogaard. Both of them are skilled and can be trusted to do the job right. This is one medical procedure that will really change the future for men with intractable BPH. For those with prostate cancer who are left unable to urinate without a catheter, this procedure can also work for you. So don't suffer any longer. If six Palmettoplex and six Cataplex F tablets daily for three to six months do not resolve your BPH, it may be time for PVP.

IMPORTANT UPDATE
LASER PROSTATE PROBLEMS
We have recommended Photo Vaporization of the Prostate (PVP) with a laser machine for men with benign prostate hypertrophy. There is nothing like the relief this treatment can bring~generally easily and with few problems or side effects. But lately I have been getting more and more letters from men who were butchered-even with this relatively safe procedure.
I've been hearing stories from men that sound worse than those from the old TURP (roto-rooter of the prostate) days. Men have been left in chronic pain, impotent, incontinent, and worse. While this seems hard to believe once you understand the procedure, it is not only possible, but becoming more common.
Weekend Warrior Urologists
The reason is simple-weekend warrior urologists who start performing the procedures immediately after a seminar. These guys must be avoided. They can be found everywhere-from obscure offices and clinics, all the way to the "top" clinics.
There is no simple way to learn a new procedure. But I am constantly amazed at the destruction some of these doctors leave in their wake. And how it just doesn't seem to bother them. However, if your prostate has grown large enough to obstruct the flow of urine, there is nothing better than PVP. It can provide instant and permanent relief. In most cases, it has little down time, side effects, or problems.
But make sure the urologist you choose is experienced. If he is just "learning the procedure," fine. But he is not for you. Do not let anyone perform PVP on you until he has done at least 60 procedures. I even prefer 100, but the technology is still fairly new and there just aren't a lot of urologists around with that kind of experience. Do not be afraid to bluntly ask for the number of successful procedures he has performed. If the number is less than 60, just leave. Your urinary health arid sex life could depend on it.
