Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Wrist Problems
Hold the very tips of your pinky and thumb together. Now have a partner determine how hard it is to pull your fingers apart. Next do the same test with one change. This time use your other hand to squeeze the two bones on either side of your wrist (the pinky side and the thumb side) directly toward each other. Hold this pressure while your partner again tries to pull your fingers apart. If it is much more difficult to pry your fingers apart while the wrist pressure is applied, you are suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome and/or a neck, arm, and hand problem. |
The main causes of almost all common neck, arm, and hand problems (including carpal tunnel syndrome) are pinched and swollen nerves, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and the sheaths or tough tissue called fascia. These can become entrapped, causing painful swelling and irritation in the nerves and joints.
Nothing short of unpinching the nerves and releasing the entrapped tissues win ever permanently correct the cause of most arm, wrist, and hand problems. This can rarely be done with drugs or surgery. What is needed is the proper hands-on therapy). If you diagnose yourself with a neck, hand, or wrist problem, you can get relief in this manner. For more information, see "Arm, Neck, and Hand Pain and Numbness," Heart Alert, Vol. 19, No. 7.
The symptoms and problems that result from this include neck, chest, jaw, shoulder, arm, elbow, wrist, hand and finger pain, headache, weakness and shaking in the arm and hand, numbness and tingling, numb fingers, arthritis, and an arm and hand that fall asleep at night.
